It's hard to leave high school behind sometimes. But social media, and text messaging for that matter, by its very nature leaves much to be desired in communicating true meaning or nuance of speech. There are so many ways to interpret something written in a shortened and quick manner. We don't always stop to ponder before we click away on the keyboard while using social media services. That's why I find myself clicking cancel more often than not whenever posting or commenting (on FF in particular). Not only are they real people behind the names, but they are from so many different backgrounds. It's very easy to be misunderstood.

I find your post both insightful and poignant. It nearly brought a tear to my eye.

You are so right. I really couldn't agree more. Although there might be people of High School age in a web community it's not always the younger ones who need to learn a bit of self-restraint and consideration for others.

I wish more people would follow your advice and just step away or think about what it is they are writing. Feelings get hurt and it is important to realise that flaming people or launching attacks is not the thing to do.

In the end the whole community can suffer. Or not. If it means that people end up considering things a little more then that's a good thing. We can hope that is the case.
