Had I continued to work sans office, I was going to start working from off-site locations in shifts. For example: go to Panera, have breakfast, and work four hours. Go eat some lunch somewhere and then go to Whole Foods, buy some coffee, and work from their dining room another four hours. Or even half days: morning at home, afternoon in the library. It's not something I'd do every day, but it would make for a nice change of pace.

Just for kicks I'm tempted to take 30 days and try to work entirely from "offices" such as Starbucks and Panera where the Wi-Fi is plentiful. The one downside that I'd expect is the whole "noisy customer" experience where the family of 10 sits next to me for their 1.5 hour breakfast. I'm honestly starting to believe I don't need an office (I do consulting on accounting software and much work is either on-site or tied to a laptop remotely).

Yeah, our home 'office' suffers a very similar problem: it became the junk room. Had I continued to work from home I would have cleaned it up and made it usable, but now I find I'm strangely lacking the motivation to do so…

Excellent post. I occasionally work from home, but there isn't really a place at home that is suited for work. Our office is filled with all sorts of other stuff that leaves no room for my work laptop, so I often set up a TV table in the living room or family room and try to work from there. I've seen the pictures of the new place and hope you have a happy time there.
